The Brookwood defense held Necedah at bay last week with a stingy defense and enough offense to earn an 8–4 win amid a chilly mix of rain and sleet April 4.
Karina Hansen helped pave the way to a victory by holding back the top of the Cardinals’ lineup, allowing just two hits from the first three batters. Overall, Hansen allowed just five hits, striking out two and walking six along the way.
Hailey Schueller and Alyssa Ottum reached base with walks in the first inning. Schueller moved to third on a passed ball, and then took home on another passed ball. A wild pitch allowed Ottum to score.
In the second inning, Daisy Hansen was hit by a pitch, only to score later in the inning on a double by Faith Wathke. Wathke scored as Schueller doubled.
A double by Ottum in the fourth pushed Wathke across home plate again, and Val Cunitz had a 2-run double in the ensuing at-bat to put Brookwood up 7–0.
Necedah scored three in the top of the fifth and another in the sixth.
Schueller stole home in the bottom of the sixth to move the Falcon’s lead to 8-4.
“We had a nice win against Necedah last Thursday,” said head coach Kelly Wallace. “Karina Hansen pitched a solid game, limiting their big hitters at the top of the order. We also made some key plays on defense and kept the bases clean for most of the game.”
Brookwood 7, Kickapoo 6
The Falcons scored at least a run in each of the first four innings of Saturday’s nonconference contest at home with Kickapoo, setting up a 7–6 win.
Kickapoo scored four in the first inning and added two in the second. Brookwood scored two in the first, one in the second, two in the fifth and finally went ahead with a pair of runs in the fourth.
Brookwood’s fourth inning kicked off with a double by Schueller. Ottum followed with another double, but Schueller was held at third. A grounder by Val Cunitz pushed Schueller across, and Ottum scored the eventual game-winner with a ground out by Karina Hansen.
Adams-Friendship 20, Brookwood 5
The Green Devils scored 11 runs in the second inning, one in each of the next two frames, and then dropped in seven more in the fifth as they coasted to a 15-run win in the final game ofBrookwood’s triangular Saturday.
Brookwood’s offense wasn’t nonexistent, either. The team tallied 11 total hits, led by Daisy Hansen with three; Ottum, two; and Gracie Brandau, two. Adams-Friendship had 16 hits; seven were for extra bases.
Brookwood is scheduled to play at Bangor on Thursday and at Wonewoc-Center on Friday.
