Gareld L. “Sonny” Hanson

Gareld L. “Sonny” Hanson, 85, of Ontario passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at his residence. 

He was born Oct. 25, 1931, to John and Bessie (Murphy) Hanson in Reedstown. On Dec. 19, 1953, in La Crosse, he was united in marriage to Darlene Rumppe. On March 24, 1954, Gareld was born again to eternal life. 

Together they farmed and raised their family in the Cashton and Ontario area.  He was also well known for his mechanical work, especially on tractors.  When he wasn’t working, Gareld preferred outdoor activities. He loved hunting, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Dale (Betty) Hanson of Ontario and Larry Hanson of Cashton; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Myia) Hanson, Amber (Clint) Barner, Jacob Hanson, Molly Hanson, Carrie (Jason) Schott, Laura (Jeff) Ames and Melissa Hanson; his great-grandchildren, Courtnee Barnett, Logan, Collin, Keenan and Petyton Hanson, Morgan, Tristan, Gavin, Maddie and Torran Hanson, Dominique, Brayden and Jaxon Barner, Breah, Ahlex, Nyah, Ennah and Zelah Schott; a step-grandchild, Kristy (Dan) Higgens; a step-great-grandchild, Brandon Alt; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie, and his siblings, Norma (Ronald) McGinnis, Opal (Norman) Dank, Emmogene (Kenneth) Bassett and Darlene (Alfred) Rumppe. 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at the Ontario Community Hall. Ron Doll and Brandon Doll will officiate. Burial will be in the Home Cemetery in Ontario. 

Family and friends are invited for visitation Wednesday, April 12, from 4–7 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m., at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Ontario. Family and friends also are invited for visitation Thursday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the Ontario Community Hall.
