Noah Friedl won the Royall invite at 220 on Saturday, Dec. 2.

He went 3-0 in the bracket, pinning two opponents and winning the third match by technical fall.

Nolan McKittrick finished second at 106 after putting together a 3–1 mark in the round-robin style bracket. The freshman won by way of pin in all three wins.

Harley Leverenz won his opening match 10–5, and then lost to eventual 126-pound bracket champion Dakota Wells (Hillsboro) by fall in the semis. Leverenz lost 7–0 in his consolation match.

Doug Woodworth lost his opening match to Viroqua’s Ryan Hannah, but picked up a win by fall on his ensuing consolation match before exiting the tournament via pin in the third round of wrestlebacks.

Luke Wohlrab lost both matches at 170.

Royall finished eighth overall in the 12-team tournament. Of the 12 teams, however, only three had more than half of the weight classes filled. Viroqua, the only team with a full set of 14 wrestlers, won the invite with 191 points. Wisconsin Dells was second with 140 points.

Black River Falls/Lincoln 30 Royall 28

The Royall wrestling team lost its season opener 30–28 last week. 

The dual consisted of six matches, a pair of forfeit wins for each team and four double forfeits. Royall held the lead until the final match of the night, when Black River Falls/Lincoln’s Josh Goldsmith pinned Doug Woodworth in the first period to set up the win for the visiting Tigers.

Josh Palamaruk earned Royall’s first win of the year by holding off Geoffrey Garvin 9–1 for a major decision at 170. Luke Wohlrab pinned his opponent at 182, as did Noah Friedl at 195. Nolan McKittrick and Michael Lincoln earned forfeit wins at 106 and 113, respectively.

Black River Falls/Lincoln earned wins by pin at 285, 126 and 152.
