The top half of the Scenic Bluffs Conference will be immensely competitive in boys basketball this season.

Bangor, the defending champion, is ranked No. 1 in the state for Division 5 inpreseason polls. Brookwood, Necedah and Royall, however, not only have the ability to control most of the rest of the teams in the SBC, but also can challenge the Cardinals this season.

Proving the point in its first game of the year, Brookwood dominated North Crawford 79–54 on Nov. 21.

Both teams featured 30-point scorers: Robert Cunitz finished with 34 points for Brookwood, while North Crawford’s Grant Smith led all scorers with 37.

The supporting casts were key, though. Garrett Gerke added 16 for BHS, and Kaden Laufenberg added 8. Five other Falcons, led by 7 on account of Orrie Maurhoff, also added to the win. The Trojans featured only four other scorers, led by Skyler Olson with 10.

On Tuesday the Falcons defeated Lincoln 66–39, but no other information was available at press time. Royall defeated Riverdale 59–22 on Nov. 28 to start its season. No extra information was available.
