Though the Brookwood baseball team is out of contention for another conference title, the Falcons can still grip third place alone by the end of the conference schedule.
The Falcons will travel to Hillsboro on Thursday to finish the league schedule.
Brookwood 8, Cashton 7
Cashton battled back from a 3–0 deficit in the top of the first inning, eventually holding a 6–4 lead by the end of five innings.
But Brookwood was ready to rally, as it took a patient approach at the plate, which resulted in four walks. Jaden Havlik singled and drove in two more to help the cause, and Brookwood finished with four total runs in the inning. The defense gave back one run in the sixth, but held strong in the seventh to lock up the victory.
Matt Hansen pitched the first four innings and was relieved by Jack Mulvaney in the fifth and sixth innings. Hansen re-entered in the seventh and picked up the save after facing four batters.
Cashton’s Noah Flock connected for a three-run homer in the second inning. Brookwood’s Havlik finished 3–4 at the plate.
Cashton 11, Brookwood 1 (6)
Cashton built a 6–1 lead in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader at Cashton, but the game was suspended in the fourth inning due to weather.
The Eagles didn’t quit when the game resumed Tuesday in Wilton, as they added three more in the fifth and a pair in the sixth to down the Falcons and maintain their hold on first place in the conference, sharing it with Royall.
Mulvaney started on the mound and gave up five runs in the first inning. Cashton’s Flock was eligible to pitch Tuesday afternoon and navigated through three innings of play by allowing just three hits.
Flock had a solo home run in the second game.
“We weren’t focused to start game two,” said head coach Paul Olbert. “And I guess I have to take some of the blame. We never recovered from a lackluster first inning. We made a couple of crucial errors, and our pitching wasn’t very sharp.”
Cashton falls to a tie with Royall atop the conference standings. The Eagles have one remaining game, and Royall has two left on the schedule.
Brookwood 11, Bangor 1 (6)
The Falcons finished a season sweep of the Cardinals with an abbreviated game May 11.
Quiet bats saw Brookwood struggle to hit the first time through the order. Meanwhile, Bangor scored an unearned run in the fourth to take a 1–0 lead.
Finally, in the fourth inning, the Falcons notched three hits and four walks to score six runs and take the lead for good.
Max Mulvaney’s single in the sixth was the third straight hit for Brookwood in the inning, and it ended the game via the 10-run rule.
Hansen pitched all five innings, giving up four hits and striking out six.
“Even though they’re having a down season, it is really satisfying to beat Bangor,” said Olbert. “They have had a dominant sports season this year, winning a conference championship in nearly every major sport besides baseball, so our kids feel good about beating them any chance we get.”
New Lisbon 6, Brookwood 5
Victory looked in hand until the Rockets stormed back with a pair of runs in the seventh to grab the lead away from Brookwood on May 9.
Brookwood committed an error in the sixth and two in the seventh, which opened the door for New Lisbon to get back into the game. The Rockets scored three of their six runs in the sixth.
