By KARI PREUSS | Elroy Public Library director
Snow graced our beautiful hills and made the holiday lights shine. The Elroy Public Library is fully decorated and inspired me to begin the first batch of cookies.
Considering baking an adventure, I prepped the kitchen like an “Iron Chef” episode, and then lived on the edge by “testing” the cookie dough, and completed the “quality check” on the end product. Nothing is better than fresh cookies. I had to run to the store for more flourbecause the “house elves” ate the next two pan fulls!
This is serious. I must make six dozen peanut butter blossoms for the Baking Spirits Bright Open House and Holiday Treat Sale on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Friends of the Elroy Library are counting on me to NOT eat anymore of my own cookies.
They will have a variety of homemade treats, including rosettes, lefse, bonbons, Russian teacakes, spitz, scrolls, and thumbprint cookies. If you prefer to personalize your treat, head downstairs to decorate your own sugar cookie with our very own Shug Preuss.
As soon as the six dozen cookies were cooled, I packaged them up and escorted them to the safety of the library. Whew! Now on to my FAVORITE, the gingerbread bread people complete with royal icing and raisins. Which holiday treat is your favorite? We hope you will find it on at the library this Saturday and check out a new book or movie during your visit.
