Elroy Public Library to offer reading activities

By MARY WAARVIK | Elroy librarian

During week five of the Elroy Public Library’s summer reading program, we will see if we have “Rocks in our Head” — or in the library, anyway.

This week, our Thursday activity group will do all sorts of “rock-y” things after eating lunch under the trees. Join us from 12-2:30 p.m. if you are interested.

On Tuesday the Senior Reader & Movie Group will discuss “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days.” That will play in the theaters, so we plan to organize a group outing to the Desert Star Cinema in Wisconsin Dells. The Children’s Cottage kids and we will go Tuesday, Aug. 7, leaving here at 12:30 p.m. You will need to turn in a signed permission slip to ride the bus. This is limited to kids participating in the Senior Reader & Movie Group, which recently read the book. You pay for your movie ticket ($5), and we will take care of the bus. But you must read the book first.

Next week will be the last week to record your summer reading times. It all ends Saturday, Aug. 11. At that time, we will announce our best reader in each of the three reading groups: preschool, first through fourth grade, and young adult. These three kids will choose either an airplane ride with Mike Erickson, a half-day fishing trip with Steve Olson, or a hair styling at the Twins Salon. Will it be you?

Come in whenever you want to record your reading times. Cover your record log with stickers and play bingo. We’ve already had three kid winners, and three adults have completed their reading bingos as well. Each received a $5 gift certificate to the local merchant of his or her choice and a nice reading bag. See how much fun you can have at the library — and we are air-conditioned.
