Elroy meal site to host energy-assistance representative

By KAREN NELSON | Elroy meal-site manager

The leaves are turning and falling off the trees. I hope we will have some beautiful fall foliage. As we look around us and see all the beauty we have here, we can’t help but think of the destruction to the west of us from forest fires and to the south of us from hurricanes. Don’t forget to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

A representative from the Juneau County energy-assistance program will be at the Elroy meal site from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. You will need to furnish them with you Social Security number, the birthdate for each person in the household, and proof of all gross income for July, August and September. You will also need to bring electric and heating cost for Sept. 1, 2016, to Aug. 31, 2017, and your food-share letter. Call Bonnie at 847-5988 if you have any questions.

The Mauston Aging and Disability Resource Center publishes its “Ageless” newsletter once a month. It always has a number of interesting articles in it, along with the menus for all the Juneau County meal sites. Don’t forget the trivia questions and word search puzzle; they are always fun to do. You can pick one up at any meal site and at various locations in all the towns. Call any meal site, and they can tell you where you can get one.

Out-of-town bus trips are offered every Friday. Check with the Mauston ADRC office at 847-9371 to see where they are going and to reserve a seat.

To everyone with a birthday in October, have a happy birthday.

The sharing supper at the Elroy Methodist Church will be the last Wednesday of the month. Check this out — they always have a good meal.

The Juneau County Senior Nutrition Program invites all seniors age 60 and older to participate in the senior dining program. Meals are served at 11:45 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Home-delivered meals are available; just call the meal site at 462-5175 to make arrangements. The suggested donation is $3.75.

Bingo is played every day at the Elroy meal site starting at 11 a.m. Check with the other meal sites to see what activities they have going on. Come join your friends for a warm meal, friendship and fun.

Make a point of stopping in and visiting one of the meal sites. Try it — you might like it. If you are bored and want something to do for a few hours once in a while, check with the meal sites about becoming a volunteer.
