Date set for Rails-to-Trails Marathon

The Norwalk Rails-to-Trails Marathon will be Sunday, Oct. 8, this year.

This is a Boston-Marathon-qualifying race. The full marathon, half marathon, 5K and fun run are held on the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail starting at the Norwalk Village Park. Go to www.railstotrailsraces.com for more information, or you may contact Theresa Lehner at 823-7942.

According to the Rails-to-Trails Marathon Committee, the proceeds from the event all go back to the Norwalk community, such as for flowers for the village, playground equipment, lights for ball park, tables and flooring for the Norwalk Community Center, donations for equipment for Norwalk Area Fire Department, donations to the Norwalk Public Library, scholarships to Brookwood High School graduates, local and organizations that help with serving food, and those who do aid stations for the marathon.

The organizers always are in need of volunteers to help. If interested, give them a call or ask any of the committee members: Theresa Lehner, Dana Martenson, Barb Ornes, Mary Beth Hansen and Janelle Stoikes.

“This will be our 10th year that we are having the marathon; let’s make it a successful year,” marathon organizers stated in a press release.
