In the first week of the season, offense was an issue for the Brookwood football team, but that wasn’t the case in the second week, when the Falcons overwhelmed visiting Riverdale 58–16.
Ben DeWitt ran with a purpose from Brookwood’s first offensive snap onward. He was the catalyst for the team in its first drive, which resulted in a 17-yard scoring run by the senior running back. He improved on the feat in the second quarter with a 27-yard scoring run, and then added a six-yarder later the period. In the third quarter, DeWitt finished a drive with a 1-yard dive for his fourth TD of the night.
DeWitt finished averaged 8.8 yards on 25 carries, finishing with 219 yards.
Conner Schueller contributed to the offense early on after picking up a mishandled ball behind the 20-yard line and racing to the four-yard line in the second quarter. He then finished the drive with a TD run. In the second quarter, the senior also found a way into the end zone with a 3-yard run.
Jack Mulvaney connected with Robert Cunitz for an 18-yard passing touchdown in the third quarter.
Mitchell Klinkner scored the final touchdown of the game on a 53-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Riverdale quarterback Caleb Johnson was in on both scoring plays for the Chieftains. Johnson threw for one score and rushed for another.
The Falcon defense smothered Riverdale from the start, breaking through the offensive line several times to disrupting plays and drive the offense backwards. Tristan Watters and Cameron Zimmerman both finished with six tackles in the win. Watters ended the night with two quarterback sacks. DeWitt and Brandon Kinserdahl each had five tackles.
