Brookwood students recently competed in an annual energy-efficient-car competition in Elkhart Lake, Wis., at Road America.
The Road America competition was the culmination of two earlier competitions in Appleton. The following were the results:
• Electric car No. 235: 16th place out of 28 cars and third-place trophy in braking at Appleton
• Gas car No. 232: 17th place out of 44 cars, first-place trophy in braking at Road America
• Gas car No. 239: 36th place out of 44 cars
Also, gas car No. 232 peaked at 197 mpg and averaged 164 mpg; and gas car No. 239, 140 mpg and 128 mpg.
The team rebuilt car No. 232 this year in accordance with competition rules, which stipulate that schools use cars for only three years.
Adviser Harvey Menn said, “It takes a lot of work and time to completely build a car, and there are always challenges and breakdowns to deal with during the competitions.”
The team consisted of Kash Downing, Logan Peterson, Colton Klumb, Tyler Roy, Zach Leis, Jamin Fladhammer and Tyler Johnson.
