The Covid-19 pandemic has wrought a constantly changing world, and that’s no exception for the Brookwood athletic program. In a change of direction from a week ago, the district will go ahead with a fall cross country program.

Athletic director Ken Clinton has been putting in extra hours building a schedule that at present consists of about six to 10 meets, said Superintendent Travis Anderson.

Spectators will be allowed, but they will be required to follow CDC guidelines such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

The runners will be given gaiter-style masks, which they will use when not competing and at the start of races.

Previously, the board of education had given authority to Anderson to make decisions regarding fall sports. Since then, the Monroe County Health Department has reclassified cross country as a “low-risk” sport, which prompted his decision to move ahead with a fall season.

Football and volleyball still are scheduled for play in the spring.
