BHS boys take fourth, girls second at conference cross-country meet

It was a cold and wet afternoon in Cashton on Thursday, Oct. 11, as the Scenic Bluffs Conference held its annual league cross country meet.

The boys race featured a surprise finish by New Lisbon, which won the meet with 55 total points. Hillsboro finished as the league’s runner up with 57 points, and Cashton scored 60. Brookwood was comfortably in the middle of the pack with 76 points, taking fourth. Also, Bangor (121 points) was fifth; Necedah (147), sixth; and Royall (204), seventh.

Cashton’s Jarrett Carpenter cruised to an easy individual championship with a time of 17:57. New Lisbon’s Owen Jones and Holden Rydmark were second and third, respectively.

Brookwood’s Christian Barrientos was sixth overall (18:57). Adrian Degenhardt was the team’s second scoring runner, finishing 13th overall, while Colton Green was 15th. Also, Cole Brandau was 18th; and Jorge Madrigal, 24th.

Royall’s Harley Leverenz was 34th overall. Teammates Nolan McKittrick (38th), Dalton Pasch (42nd), Nate Vieth (44th), and Evan Palamaruk (46th) finished out the scoring for the team.

Cashton’s girls team surged past the rest of the pack to lock up its second straight conference title, scoring just 23 points along the way. Gracey Mlsna, the meet’s individual champion, ran the 5-kilometer race with a time of 21:31. Teammates Emma Schlesner, Izzi Mason, and Emma Gronemus all finished in the top 10. Also, Schlesner was second; and Mason and Gronemus, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Hillsboro’s Hannah Munson was third.

For Brookwood, Jackie Santiago led with a sixth-place finish in a time of 23:13. Samantha Atteln was ninth (23:30); Kimberlee Downing (23:39), 10th; Shelly Powell, 13th; and Lainey Teynor, 18th.

The Falcon girls’ team scored 54 points. Hillsboro was third with 67 points, and Necedah was fourth (90).

Also, Royall’s Tenley Wopat andMadeline Wainwright finished 22nd and 23rd in a field of 46 runners.

Sectionals

On Saturday, all seven Scenic Bluffs Conference teams will compete at the Division 3 sectional race in Durand. The boys will run their race at 12 p.m., followed by the girls at 12:45 p.m.
