The dream of becoming a conference champion will come true for 14 wrestlers at this weekend’s Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference wrestling meet in Cashton.

The tournament includes participants from 12 different teams, though most brackets will not be full.

Brookwood, which finished the regular season in third place in the Scenic Bluffs, will try to improve on that finish Saturday. Cory Ottum and Jaden Havlik are strong candidates to qualify for finals, but don’t be surprised if the likes of Ben De Witt, Joey Perrigo or Garret Attlen find a way to finish high within their weight classes.

New Lisbon, which won the Scenic Bluffs title with a perfect 5–0 record, seems poised to win the conferencetournament, but will be challenged by teams like Cashton and Weston/Ithaca. The W-I co-op may be smaller in number, but the majority of its team likely will place in the top three Saturday.

Royall, though small in number, will still have a shot to crown a champion, as Noah Friedl will try to improve on his 19-5 record. Friedl won the Indee Invite last week at Independence after going 3–0 on the day. The sophomore won with a pin, a technical fall and a major decision. Caleb Leis also will have a chance to score team points at 182. Leis finished sixth at the Indee Invite on Saturday.

Cashton won last year’s meet with 172 points. New Lisbon was second with 162.5, Royall, third (122.5); Weston/Ithaca, fourth (99.5); and Brookwood, fifth (90).

Wrestling will start at 10 a.m. in Cashton on Saturday.
