Anita Gibson, 77, of Ontario passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

She was born June 22, 1939, to Roland and Harriet (Steadman) Powell in Viroqua. Anita was united in marriage to William F. Gibson on May 5, 1962, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton. She worked as a registered nurse at Vernon Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro, the VA Medical Center in Tomah and other hospitals in her 40-year career. Anita was a member of the American Legion 467 Women’s Auxiliary in Ontario.

She was a lifelong learner and collector of antiques and jewelry. She loved flowers, playing piano, watching PBS, listening to classical music and watching theatre plays. She was a devout Catholic, and more than anything, Anita loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anita is survived by her children, Catherine (Ronald) Bean of West Salem, Teresa (Robert) Bradley of Ontario, Steven (Monica) Gibson of Winona, Minn., Paul (Wanda) Gibson of Ontario, William B. Gibson of La Crosse, and Lisa (Jayson) DeWitt of Ontario; her grandchildren, Gregory and Michael Bean, Ian Bradley, Morgan, Jon, Katie and James Gibson, Madeline Paige, and Samuel, Ben, Nathaniel, Timothy and Jackson DeWitt; her step-grandchildren, Marcella, Brian and Eric Trejo and Samantha Baldwin; her great-grandchildren, Marjorie Flaten, Jordan and Devon Dawley, Evelyn, Gavin and Emma Baldwin, and Deja and Kendrick Jimenez; a brother, David (Lisa) Powell of Wilton; a sister-in-law, Nancy Powell; and nieces, nephews and relatives. Anita had many friends and will be truly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Gibson; her parents, Roland and Harriet; a brother, James Powell; and a sister, Donna Kay Powell.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Ontario. Father Michael Klos will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Hilltop Rest Cemetery in Ontario.

Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
