Alice Marie Prechel, 90, of Kendall and Westby passed away peacefully Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

She was born Feb. 8, 1926, to Edgar and Ella (Rosenow) Roscovius in the town of Adrian. She was baptized Feb. 21, 1926, and confirmed March 17, 1940, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1944.

She was united in marriage to Norbert C. Prechel at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 29, 1946. She worked at Fort McCoy and Ray O’Vac and was a salesperson for Watkins Products. Alice was a faithful and devoted member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Ladies Circle. She also was a member of the Kendall Firettes and received her EMT certification.

In her spare time, Alice enjoyed looking into her family genealogy, scrapbooking, sewing, doing needle point, spending time in her garden and cooking, and most of all, Alice loved to dance and listen to her music. Alice loved to be with her family. She had a caring and generous heart; she dearly loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and extended her love outside her family to help others. She would do anything she could for her grandchildren and enjoyed sharing life lessons with them. Her wise words of, “Do your best; that is all you can ask of yourself” will stay close to their hearts.

Alice also had a great sense of humor; sharing a laugh with her family and a friend was always welcomed. Above all, Alice always would see the good in people and remind others that “you never know what is in another person’s heart, so you can’t judge; God is the only one to do that.”

She is survived by her children, Verlyn (Diane) of Kendall, Harland of College Station, Texas, LaDon (Patricia) of Stoughton, Wis., Karen (Olen) Jensen of Janesville, Rodney of Los Angeles, and Diane (Vernon) Daines of Westby; her grandchildren, Michelle (Braddy) Bohlman, Helen and Kellie Prechel, David (Rustie) and Matthew Prechel, Josh (Chrystal) Erhardt, Brandon (Michelle) and Erik (Aimee) Jensen, and Allyson, Kelsey and Ryan Daines; her great-grandchildren, Seth, Bryce, and Fiona Prechel, Shianne and Donovan Erhardt, and Audrey, Dayne, and Grady Jensen; a sister, Arlene Waege of Tomah; and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Roscovius.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norbert; an infant daughter, Denise Ann; two sisters, Joan Olson and Lorna Emden; two brothers, Robert and Merle Roscovius; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Waege, Ronald Olson and Richard “Dick” Emden.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kendall. Pastor Steven W. Neuman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery in the town of Tomah.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church Monday at the church from 4–8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home in Kendall is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com.
