Moose Tassler of End of the Trail Equine Campground in Ontario lost his battle with cancer on December 30, 2015, with his wife, Jan, by his side.

Thank you to Jo Dunwald for being with Moose and me on that night. I don’t know how I would have gotten through that heartbreaking night without you.

Moose was a Vietnam veteran with many honored medals, including Purple Heart, Bronze Star for Valor, Air Medal, Airborne Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

He was a Boilermaker, Local 107 (welder) for 27 years.

We built End of The Trail Horse Camp, which has been our “dream life” for the past 15 years. We were voted one of the top 15 horse camps in the United States. As one special camper, Joe, stated, “Moose was that pebble, hitting the water, those ripples spread out far and wide, affecting all of us in a special way.”

Moose is survived by his wife, Jan; our two four-legged kids, two Trax (Aussie pup), and Rufus, our beloved mule that had been with us for 34 years but sadly left us on Jan. 11, 2016, to go be with Moose; three children from Arizona, Steve, Shannon and Shane; three sisters, Bonny, Jackie and Karen; and two brothers, Jon (Vicki) and Smudge (Judy).

His parents, Smoke and Chic, and a brother, Byron, preceded him in death.

Thank you to my friend Gale for your shoulder to lean on and to Dale and Virginia DeWitt for all of your help and support during this hard loss.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to Levi Dunwald for your love and support for me, Moose and End of the Trail.

You were more than Moose’s right-hand man, and now you will be mine.

Moose, I love and miss you and Rufus so much. I will meet you at the “end of the trail.”
