Jack Hansen struck out six and walked two in Brookwood’s 10–0 six-inning win over Wonewoc-Center on April 30.
The Falcons led 3–0 going into the fifth inning, but strung together a series of hits and aggressive base running to tack on five more. Also, the team put up three runs in the sixth inning.
“We are starting to show a lot of improvement, and the team is starting to look pretty good,” said coach Paul Olbert.
Justin Marten and Jaden Havlik each recorded three hits in the win.
After pitching four innings, Wonewoc-Center’s Bailey Miller took the loss, striking out three and walking three.
Sparta 3, Brookwood 2
Coach Olbert said his team — Cory Ottum specifically — put together one of the finest pitching performances of the season, but came up short against Sparta, 3–2, in nonconference action.
According to Olbert, Sparta took control of the game on one play that his team had committed two errors on in the sixth inning. The Falcons stranded two runners in the seventh, and that could have tied or helped the team take the lead.
The Falcons are 5–4 on the season as of Monday, May 4. Scores from Monday’s game against Royall were not reported by press time.
