A school board should think many times before reducing English classes. I read the letter by Lyda Lanier in the County Line on April 2. She gave a perfect example of what happens when English classes are cut from the school’s curriculum.
The very classes that the schools are cutting out or downsizing are the very things that are useful in the real world and last a life time, such as forensics, debate, or English as well as art and music. They are not frills; they are needed in life and the real world. The loss to the students of these classes is something they would not realize until they are out in the real world.
Many times I am so grateful for the education we had at Norwalk, especially forensics for me personally.
Parents, do not let the school board cut these classes; your children need them to be able to get along and cope with the real world.
