Pictured below, Paisley Anderson, daughter of Steve and Heidi Anderson of rural Kendall, sits attentively as Ryan Klinkner of the Norwalk Lions Club and Liz Johnson of the Hillsboro Lions Club tests her vision using “Spot.” Paisley was one of the many pre-kindergarten students who attended Child Development Day at Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton Elementary School on April 20. Vision screening was just one part of the activities that were coordinated by N-O-W school nurse Carmen Peterson.
The Spot Vision Screener, which was purchased by the Hillsboro Lions, is a handheld portable device designed to help users quickly and easily detect vision issues on patients from 6 months of age through adult. “Spot” screens both eyes at once from a non-threatening 3-foot distance. The touch-screen display allows for one-touch activation, simple management of patient data entry, and easy configuration for both vision screening and auto refraction applications.
Printouts of the tests were distributed to parents in the event their child needed to be referred for further testing.
Members of the Hillsboro, Norwalk adn Cashton Lions Clubs conducted the screening, continuing the Lions International humanitarian mission of sight programs, eye banks, eyeglass recycling and those with hearing disabilities under their motto of “We Serve.”
