A number of the more than 50 people attending the budget listening session at Sparta’s Community Center on March 26 were there because they rely on Wisconsin Public Radio and Wisconsin Public Television for nonjudgmental coverage of state issues such as the proposed state budget.  

But access to unbiased state and national news reporting is threatened by the 34 percent cut proposed by Gov. Walker.  So, too, is the companion funding of UW-Extension, the service that links Monroe County residents to university and global resources.

If you are among those who depend on public radio and the UW-Extension or have concerns about other budget issues, it’s not too late to express your views to those who hosted the listening session: state Sens. Shilling and Lassa and state Reps. VanderMeer, Nerison and Kulp.
