Master Gardener Betty Beck will be featured during a special presentation titled “Gardening 101” at Tomah Memorial Hospital on Thursday, April 9.
Organized by the Tomah Memorial Hospital wellness committee, the free event is scheduled from 1–3 p.m.
Beck, a gardener for more than 20 years and a former Tomah Memorial Hospital laboratory med tech, will describe how to start a vegetable garden.
According to wellness committee member and occupational therapist Erin Kaczmarowski, “Gardening is an excellent way to get fresh vegetables into your diet, get some gentle exercise and spend time outside with family. It’s also a rewarding activity that can decrease stress and give feelings of accomplishment and self-efficacy.”
Monroe County Extension Agricultural Agent Bill Halfman also is scheduled to attend.
In recognition of April Occupational Therapy Month, there will be information on adapting gardening for people with physical difficulties or other special needs, according to Kaczmarowski.
