Ontario farm to host dairy breakfast

For the first time ever, the Vernon County Dairy Breakfast will be held at an Ontario area farm.

Eirik and Cheryl Eness will welcome thousands to Little Ridge Dairy on June 20.

“This was always on his bucket list,” said Cheryl, referring to Eirik’s drive to host the event on what was the home place for famed farm broadcaster Orion Samuelson.

Usually the breakfast is held on the first Saturday in June. But due to a scheduling conflict with Samuelson, who will be the guest of honor, the date was changed to June 20.

That is good news for dairy breakfast fans, who often complained that Monroe County’s and Vernon County’s events fell on the same day.

The Vernon County Dairy Breakfast usually draws about 2,300 people, but it is estimated that Samuelson’s appearance could increase that number by a thousand or more.

About 50 people met Monday evening at the Ontario Community Hall to begin planning the event. Members of the Vernon County University of Wisconsin-Extension and the dairy promotions committee handed out information and outlined tasks that will need to be done.

Tor Eness and Inga Gerber will co-chair the breakfast. Karen Parker agreed to handle publicity.

Although volunteers stepped forward to chair most of the committees, several remain unfilled. Lots of help will be needed, so watch the County Line for a complete list of committee chairs and their contact information.
