The Kendall Village Board reviewed dog-ordinance proposals at its meeting Monday, considering new language governing dog ownership in the municipality.
The impetus for the update occurred last year, when several residents complained that a neighbor’s pitbull had shown aggressive behavior, at times toward children, when it had gotten off its leash.
The newly proposed ordinance would not target specific breeds and would grant the village marshal, a position currently filled by Brandon Arenz, discretion when resolving dog-related problems.
Sending the matter to its attorney for review, the board will approve the ordinance at a later date.
Other business
• The board approved a $141,250 contract with St. Germain Sandblasting, a Negaunee, Mich.-based company, to repaint the village water tower. Work will begin next summer.
• Working with the Kendall Area Arts and Culture Organization, the board agreed to hire Steve Peterson of Kendall to create a village website. Cutting his usual fee in half, Peterson will charge $800 to set up the site plus $300 for domain registration and other services.
Also, Peterson will serve as the administrator for the site for $45 per hour, though he noted he would bill in 15-minute increments.
The underlying intentions for the website are to enhance tourism and draw businesses to Kendall.
