Find your recipe now for the tomato taste-off at the Ontario Library Community Garden Harvest Fest, an event set for Saturday, Sept. 13.

The recipe can be for anything that has tomato as an ingredient. Bring enough so that others can taste and vote on your entry. A prize will be rewarded for the best-rated recipe. If you bring a printed copy of the recipe, we will make it available so others can make it. The taste-off will begin at 5 p.m. at the Ontario Community Hall.

The Harvest Fest will begin at 3 p.m. with music by Ann Christoffer, who will play at the shelter near the garden. Bring your lawn chair or blanket. Also, there will be family games and activities. We’ll dunk for apples, make apple cider with a cider press, have donkey rides, and decorate scarecrows.

If you have clothes or accessories to decorate a scarecrow, such as a Packer, a Brookwood mascot, a Harley motorcycle rider or an elegant lady, bring them to the library beforehand or the garden Sept. 13. We plan to decorate scarecrows and plant them around the garden.

A soup supper will be at the Ontario Community Hall at 5:30 p.m., after the tomato taste-off. Soup from the garden vegetables, bread, dessert and beverages will be served. There’s no charge for any event that day, so bring the family.
