Two months ago we were inundated with excess precipitation and yearning for dry weather so that we could finish getting in spring planting and gardens. Lately we’ve been praying for some of that life-giving moisture to replenish the alfalfa crops, keep the corn and soybeans growing and bring our garden produce to maturity. Last night (Monday), the Lord finally answered with a booming thunderstorm. He always comes through, even though He sometimes makes us wait for it. I guess we appreciate it and Him more that way.
At the west end of the neighborhood, Lynette Vlasak enjoyed lunch Monday with the Hillsboro Retired Teachers at Spring Valley Restaurant in Union Center. On Tuesday, Sally Dana was at Camp Ehawee near Mindoro for the American Camping Association. Then, on Thursday, the gals drove to Janesville to have breakfast with Lori Cherf, and then went on to Brodhead, Wis., for a memorial service for Mary Milks. On Friday evening, they attended and helped out at the play “Marriage Can Be Murder” at the Roundhouse Park in Kendall.
Randy Parkhurst came from Orfordville, Wis., on Tuesday and spent a few days with his parents Jim and Mary, returning home Thursday. On Friday evening, Jim and Mary went to Ontario for supper at the Milk Jug Cafe.
Grandchildren grow up and get married, and grandparents sometimes have to travel to attend the nuptials. Ron and Arlene Garvens spent the weekend in Rockford, Ill., where Jason and Carley Garvens spoke their vows at the Klehm Arboretum.
My husband Dave and I keep busy coming and going during the week but not doing anything you would want to read about most of the time. But on Friday evening we joined about 170 other folks at the dinner-theatre wedding in the Roundhouse Park in Kendall and enjoyed a good dinner and great entertainment.
Mike and Vickie Schumann came from Reedsburg and joined his mom Ruth and brother Steve, having dinner with Sheila Harris and son Sammy on Saturday evening.
On Tuesday morning, Lynne Nelson crossed the road and visited Evelyn Zirk. On Wednesday, Jo Marie Walker of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., and Marie Lou Stoner of Sioux Falls, S.D., visited in the afternoon. The gals were here for the blue grass festival in rural La Farge. On Thursday, Clayton Jacobson arrived with some sweet corn for Ev and Jerry, and on Saturday, Bruce Zirk came from Dutch Hollow to see his mom. Randy Zirk arrived from Madison on Sunday morning to take Ev to church and have lunch with her afterward while Jerry spent a few days at his other home in Hayward, Wis.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the column, God has come through again with rain when we needed it most. We were lulled to sleep with the sound of raindrops on the roof, a most pleasant lullaby. The Lord does keep track of our needs and fulfills them in His timing. He even provides many of our wants as well. It is mindboggling to think that He has this entire globe under His perfect care and knows each of us intimately. We can only give Him the glory He deserves as we seek to live lives pleasing to Him.
