It’s called “Aunt Ethel’s Raspberry Shortcake” and found in St. Matthew’s Cookbook, with Hazel Pasch being the contributor.

Family reunions are popular for many folk during the summer and continue to bring families together and even getting acquainted with those they seldom see. So it was on Saturday at the Wilton Park when descendants of Fred and Viola Witt gathered for their annual reunion.

“We hold it in July, around mother’s birth date, July 18,” Hazel said.

Hot dogs and homemade hot beef sandwiches, along with four dozen homemade buns made by Hazel that morning, plus a good assortment of other food, made for a great picnic and always good fellowship among the 45 people attending this year.

On the other end of the shelter, in the park, another reunion was taking place. This year a postcard had been sent with a picture of Frank and Julianna Fauska and it said, “Know these two people? Haven’t a clue? Come to our Fauska reunion and we’ll enlighten you.” Descendants of Frank, John and Thaddeus Fauska were invited. Darlene Martalock from South Ridge is a granddaughter of Frank Fauska and helps make this annual reunion happen.

Marcia Rueckheim is recuperating from knee surgery and is getting lots of TLC at her daughter Peggy Brown’s home. Her address there is 29589 Orchard Road, Ontario, WI 54651.

Pastor and Sarah Neuman and boys attended the Koine Concert at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tomah on Thursday evening. Matthias Neuman celebrated his fourth birthday on Saturday and his grandparents from Wauwatosa were here for the weekend to help celebrate.

Frank and Darlene Martalock, Hazel Pasch and I from South Ridge attended the visitation for Phyllis Baltz in Kendall on Wednesday evening. Hazel also attended services Thursday. Phyllis grew up in our area and was a member of St. Matthew’s before her marriage. This lady will always be remembered for her smile and great attitude about life despite her many odds. We offer sympathy.

Viena Ebersold stopped by for a visit with Aaron and Hazel Pasch on Sunday afternoon.

It was a perfect summer evening Friday and it found Bob and I at St. Matthew’s in rural Warrens, where we enjoyed a steak dinner (grilled tenderloins by Dean Peterson), devotions by Pastor Enderle and singing by The Trinitii.

Joan Belsky and I enjoyed the garden and lawn tours sponsored by the Kendall Area Arts and Culture Organization on Saturday. Thanks to those who worked so hard getting their properties in such beautiful shape.

We spent Sunday with Matt and Ann Hynek at the Shelby Park in La Crosse, where the Hillsboro Oriole team played baseball. Grandson Gunner is a member of the team and the boys came out winning both games that day.

Some have asked about our sister-in-law, Margaret Anderson. In mid-June, she had two tumors on the brain removed. She spent five week at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse and as of Monday she is now at the Serenity House in Tomah. The address is 601 Straw St. Margaret is blessed to have a devoted family. Many hours have found them beside her with support and love.

And that’s it for July 21, 2014.
