What do you think about Jonah?

By MICHAEL T. GJEFLE

Luke 11:30 — “For as Jonah was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of Man be to this generation.”

Nineveh was a wicked city that repented at the preaching of Jonah. Read the Book of Jonah for yourself and reflect upon God’s working through the life of Jonah. Under God’s direction, Jonah would spend three days and three nights in a “great fish’s” belly, and then go to preach to that city of Nineveh. Is that hard to believe? No, God said it. Jesus spoke of it as an event in history. Jonah’s stay within the fish would serve as a sign concerning what the Lord Jesus would do upon His death: three days and three nights in a grave, only to rise again over sin, death, Satan and the grave.

Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah. Have you repented of your sins and believed in the only One who can forgive your sin and save your soul, the Lord Jesus Christ? Jonah was a real person. What the Bible says of his life really happened. The Bible is the Word of God. Oh, may we all listen to God’s Word and obey God’s ways. The lesson of Jonah is important even today. Why? Because Jesus said so!
