Mission festival services will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kendall and St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on South Ridge (rural Ontario) on Sunday, April 27.
Professor Kenneth Cherney, the guest preacher and presenter, serves as the World Mission Professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wis. As World Mission Professor, Cherney works with mission fields served by missionaries of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod to help determine their teaching needs in training national pastors, according to a press release prepared by the two churches. He also assists in coordinating efforts for mission work in areas where missionaries are not serving.
As part of this work, he travels to many of the regions to assist, but to allow other professors to teach abroad, he also teaches classes at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary.
Prior to his service at the seminary, Cherney served as a missionary to Brazil, a mission pastor in Louisiana, a Hebrew and Greek professor at Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.), and the director of the Caribbean Christian Training Institute in Antigua, West Indies.
The worship service at St. John’s (Kendall) is at 9 a.m.; and at St. Matthew’s (South Ridge), 10:30 a.m. After the service at St. Matthew’s, a potluck lunch will be served. Following lunch, Professor Cherney will give a presentation on world mission work. All are invited.
