The Brookwood and Royall girls track teams combined to win eight of the 17 events at the Necedah Early Bird, a track and field invite that featured six schools, on April 7.

Taking first, the Falcons’ 400- and 3,200-meter relay teams led the way on the track.

The 400-meter relay team (Cecilia Mendoza, Haley Hall, Amber Brueggen and Briana Nelson) finished with a time of 51.01, less than a second ahead of Kickapoo/La Farge.

The 3,200-meter relay team (Taylor Schmitz, Ty Kaiser, Zoey Rynes and Michaela Baldwin) blew away the competition with a time of 11:50.03, nearly 70 seconds ahead of the Necedah’s runner-up team.

Also, Baldwin won the open 3,200, plus Briana Nelson won the long jump with a distance of 14-06.25.

Royall’s Taylor Juresh captured the 100- and 200-meter-dash titles with times of 12.96 and 27.18, respectively, and was part of the Panthers’ second-place four-by-400-meter relay.

In the field, senior Katie Sugden edged the field of competitors to claim both the shot put and discus titles.  Sugden threw a 31-05.5 in the shot to defeat Hillsboro’s Bridgett Madden by 4 inches.  In the discus ring, Sugden pulled off a throw of 83-09, 4 feet farther than Madden’s second-place toss.

Boys relays claim wins
