The Vernon County Historical Society will offer a program entitled “The Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) People: From the Treaty of 1825 to 2014” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at the Vernon County Museum, 410 S. Center St., Viroqua.
Chloris Lowe, past-president of the Ho-Chunk Nation, will speak about the modern history of the Ho-Chunk, the original inhabitants of Vernon County. Involved in recovery of native lands in Wisconsin and the preservation of the Ho-Chunk language, Lowe works across the United States, consulting with businesses that want to work in Indian country.
The public is invited, and refreshments will be served.
